North Tyneside Mayor Pledges FREE Broadband for all

The recently elected Mayor of North Tyneside, John Harrison, has pledged to bring FREE next generation (fibre optic) broadband services to every home and School in the area. The pledge also formed part of a wider commitment, which included a raft of improvements from lower taxation to the creation of more jobs:

"Now is not the time to do nothing – now is the time to plan, to act and to provide the support and leadership that the residents of North Tyneside want and need," said Harrison to the local News Guardian.

"The price of doing nothing is to fail the people of North Tyneside. It would put at risk their prosperity, their jobs, their homes and their dreams for the future. My vision is of a positive future, increased prosperity and even greater opportunity," he concluded.

Promising the earth is one thing, delivering is another and it remains unclear where the money will come from for such ambitious plans. Never the less it’s good to see that fibre optic broadband services are finally being taken seriously by politicians.
