Netgear has unveiled its latest
MBR624GU wireless broadband router at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (USA). On the surface it's your typical router with
Wi-Fi, ADSL or Cable land-line broadband support, four Ethernet (LAN) ports and a firewall etc. It is also Netgear’s first router to include a USB port for
Mobile Broadband (3G) USB Modems (Dongles).
Several other router manufacturers, such as D-Link's DIR-825, have already put out similar products that allow customers to hook in their
Mobile Broadband modems as a backup. Sadly Netgears new router does have certain limits, which start with the fact that it only supports the older style of 54Mbps 802.11g wireless networking and not the faster Draft N spec. There's also no WAN port for connecting in other broadband modems and related network devices.
