The
International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has released its latest ICT Development Index (IDI), which compares developments in information and communication technologies (ICT) in 154 countries over a five-year period from 2002 to 2007.
The UK managed to place 10th overall, although we fell back to 14th place in the price index, which ranked countries based on the lowest consumer service costs, such as end-user pricing for telephone lines and broadband Internet access:
It's unsurprising to see that the countries with the lowest costs often had higher overall rankings. There was also a growing shift away from fixed line broadband services in favour of Mobile and
Mobile Broadband alternatives, with over three times more mobile cellular subscriptions than fixed telephone lines globally:
The report also found that 23% of global inhabitants used the Internet at the end of 2008.
