Virgin Media has released the results of its broadband speed tester tests, which uses the providers latest 'up to' 20 and 50Mbps cable broadband products to find out which broadband testers can cope with their newest and fastest services.
Sadly, out of nine testers, just
Thinkbroadband.com and Speedtest.net (using the London server) were able to routinely read at least 90% of the speed delivering via the providers 20Mbps service. This reduced to just
Thinkbroadband for its 50Mbps product:
It's worth pointing out that we, unlike some, make it clear that our system is presently only capable of being reasonably useful at reading speeds of
up to 8Mbps or lower. Testing ours with 20Mbps and 50Mbps is of little use right now, the server simply couldn't cope.
We hope to resolve this in the future but for now it is important that
Virgin Media does this as many other testers are unaware of their limits and do not communicate that to those who use them. Virgin's results page can be viewed here:
