Vodafone UK has said that it plans to make 20% of its senior managers redundant while hiring hundreds of sales staff to help shop its new 'Mobile Broadband' (3G) services to customers.
The groups headquarters in Newbury is expected to bare the brunt with 450 jobs set to go. Vodafone will then recruit 130 more sales and services staff. An additional 30 new jobs will also be created in its online sales and customer services division.
Most consumers continue to use their mobiles for making voice calls, which is no longer the money spinner that it us to be. Vodafone hopes that it can generate more money revenue by educating customers into using their phones for other activities, such as downloading music.
