UK ISP
Fast4 has today announced the launch of its new 'up to' 24Mbps broadband packages from just £9.98 inc. VAT per month, which are based off murphx's unbundled (
LLU) platform. New subscribers will have to pay a £47.00 activation fee but also get a free USB modem:
The 24Mb service is fantastic, said Nick Pulsford,
It is supplied over the LLU network that we are able to utilise and the speeds achievable are simply amazing. We currently have customers testing the service and they are able to surf at 22Mb with an upload speed of 1.3Mb. Obviously the speeds are very dependant on the quality of the customers telephone line and the distance they are from their local exchange but everyone should see a massive lift on their current service speeds.
Nick continued,
We have not changed any of our prices for these new services which means that if customers wish to switch to us they can enjoy 24Mb broadband for only £9.98 a month, at present we are also giving the first month for FREE for migrations to our service and a free modem to completely new broadband customers. There is absolutely no 12 month contract at all nor any exit fees if you wish to leave.
The front page does not make it clear how much data usage allowance is offered with each package, although under the previous 'up to' 8Mbps offers the £9.98 option came with a 1GB cap. Additional usage can be purchased for £2 per 1GB, lowering to £1 per 1GB when purchased in bigger blocks.
Fast4's latest move follows a troubled migration away from its previous supplier (
news), and some existing customers have already expressed frustration at the usage limitations of the new package(s).
