I was looking for a small ISP with UK support, had a terrible time with BT’s incompetent Indian call centres when I had problems with them. I wanted to avoid the other big companies (SKY, TalkTalk, EE) as I believe they all have offshore support & I can’t get Virgin in my area. Saying that after having to troubleshoot the crappy Virgin Super Hub for friends not sure I’d consider them anyway. I was with AAISP who were great but expensive and unfortunately because of my wife changing jobs we had to save some money.
I can’t really remember how I came across Origin, but dropped them an email for a quote which was competitive. When I chatted on the phone to them I was impressed that instead of me disappearing into the system if I signed up, I’d have a dedicated member of staff (in my case Daniel) who would manage my account. I was also offered a very competitive introductory offer to sign up as well.
Daniel looked after me through the procedure, I was kept up to date with my status of both phone line and broadband migration. The work was done while I was on holiday and I was using my own router, so had to ring them once I came back to get my login details. Phone answered quickly, wasn’t put on hold and was up and running 5 minutes later.
My broadband has been rock solid since I got it and speeds have been pretty much bang on what I should be getting., I haven’t spotted any congestion or throttling. I don’t have any filtering either, David Cameron’s stupid “Daily Mail” filter and the High Court imposed Torrent blocks are both absent.
My phone line transferred as well, nothing exciting to report, it just works.
Line Rental is cheaper than BT though.
They did sneak some jokes into their Terms & Conditions though which amused me.
