UK ISP TalkTalk ( The Carphone Warehouse ) has issued a brief market update about several forthcoming price adjustments to its broadband and voice products. The changes, they claim, are necessary to help compensate for BT's recent price rises, which TalkTalk got frustrated about earlier this month (original news).

From 1st April 2009 line rental will rise from £10.50 to £11.25 per month, call connection fees should increase to 8p and chargeable daytime call costs will hit 4.5p per minute. Meanwhile, from 2nd June, there will be a £5 penalty for any broadband user that exceeds their monthly download usage allowance.

However there are some benefits to be had, with 0870/0845 numbers now being included for free with inclusive minute call plans alongside the 1GB online backup service and parental controls. The Security Booster add-on will also be reduced in price to just £2 extra per month.

UPDATE 01/04/2009 @ 12:42pm :

TalkTalk has now uploaded a new webpage with all the details:

Personally very satisfied with the service, and no problem with the minor line increase, very happy about the 0870 & 0845:

Just thinking...

Does the £5 penalty for going over your limit mean that for an extra £5 per month you get unlimited downloads, or does the £5 penalty come with a warning?

Agrajag: Why not just add the download booster it is only £4 a month and doubles your download limit from 40GB to 80GB. Look at BT's fair use policy on their "unlimited" it has a 40GB limit. 40GB is an awful lot to download in 1 month though to be fair 80GB is an enormous amount!

I am most annoyed with TalkTalk, I am an established telephone customer for well over a year now and my telephone bill was not too bad, but when I switched from BT Broadband to them as well. then they started to charge over the top and my first months bill for both internet and telephone they sent me was for £88.+ How they arrived at this figure is absolutely disgusting as it was a figure plucked out of the sky. I was told that my monthly phone bill would be reduced to £16.04 inclusive of anytime calls and my internet would be nothing for the first six months as I left BT early before my contract ended. And BT would send me a breach of contract termination bill for £104.+ My second months TT bill was for £93. + Which they said that they would deduct just £10 for late payment charge. I was not late as I was waiting for them to send me a proper bill. A promise they never kept.

I am seriously thinking of leaving Talktalk and going to another company. I am a pensioner who is trying to survive on pension credit which is all I have to live on. With Talktalk their word is worthless. And if you don't pay what they ask, then they just cut you off. Without notice. They also add on bogus charges that were not in the original agreement from them. Personally I wouldn't trust them as far as I can see them. Check the details of your bills and agreements carefully. You will find there are charges on the BILLS that you weren't told about. I believe that they may be running a SCAM ON ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS. Because they are a service company they think they can treat you any way that suits them.
