The governments Communications Minister, Lord Stephen Carter, who is currently polishing off the Digital Britain report for publication on 16th June next week, is rumoured to be headed back to the private sector and may quit his job before the final report is published - claims The Times.

The loss of Carter, especially at such a crucial time, will come as a blow to both the government and the many people who have been awaiting his final Digital Britain report. Questions will need to be answered about what it will propose and not having the chief author there to answer them isn't likely to go down at all well.

UPDATE - 14th June:

We forgot to mention that the government has since confirmed the above news, adding that Carter will leave after the reports publication and not before.

Probably speaks volumes about what fudge the final report contains. Wise to get comfy in that overpaid private sector job before his credibility takes enough of a nosedive to rule out anything grander than CEO of a small sweetshop in Ealing.

Seriously, being CEO of a sweet shop in Ealing actually sounds like a pretty good job cheese .
