Mobile operator O2 has announced a new partnership with Wi-Fi (wireless broadband) provider BT Openzone, which will see O2's Mobile Broadband customers being given access to 3,000 additional BT Wi-Fi Hotspots. The changes will require existing customers to upgrade their Connection Manager Software, which is currently only available for Microsoft Windows users.

The upgrade will also see the addition of a data counter, enabling users to monitor and control their data consumption more easily. The data counter will provide accurate usage information for individual sessions and link through to an overall usage page.

To add extra peace-of-mind for consumers, an automatic notification will be sent to the Connection Manager when 75%, 90% and 100% of their data allowance has been reached.

Jonathan Earle, Head of Pay Monthly, said:
“We are introducing two key changes. Firstly, expanding our Unlimited Wi-Fi proposition by introducing BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots allowing our customers to stay connected to the people and things that matter to them most. Secondly, we know that customers want to be able to track how much data they have used. Our simple data counter gives the control that our customers want.”

The new software will automatically copy existing Wi-Fi profiles from a customer’s laptop into Connection Manager during the initial installation process. This will seamlessly connect users to their home or business broadband wireless networks, without the need to manually enter security codes.

New Customers will benefit from the extended BTOpenzone Wi-Fi coverage and improved Connection Manager from the end of July.

Well i just bought 3 Mobile broadband with free laptop for only 17.50. Some1 drop a leaflet through the door of http://www.domesticutilities.com
I went to the site and find out that the cheapest one is three broadband. But the signals are not very good. Outside it works perfect it gives me 2MB speed but indoor i hardly gets signals so i think O2's service will be very good.

My Netbook appears to have picked up the connection manager update already so it looks like it may already be being rolled out cool
