Thanks to one of our readers for informing us that Entanet also has charts that show the distribution of the broadband speeds received by customers on the provider’s network (e.g. ADSL24 , Aquiss etc.). This follows yesterdays news where PlusNet posted nearly identical data for its ISP (here).

As with PlusNet, the performance chart shown below represents 'throughput speed' (BRAS profile), which is the maximum speed that data will transfer across the connection. The maximum throughput speed is always slightly lower than the sync speed.

Entanet bras profile 20cn
Entanet's BT Based 20CN (up to 8Mbps ADSL) Broadband Platform

Entanet bras profile 21cn
Entanet's BT Based 21CN (up to 24Mbps ADSL2+) Broadband Platform

Both charts are interesting to look at, especially the 21CN one where speeds of 6500 (6.5Mbps) and 7150 (7.1Mbps) account for a significant portion of the providers users. This is because quite a lot of Entanet's customers are still on 'up to 8Mbps' packages, albeit while using the providers faster 'up to' 24Mbps platform; as a result they get stronger speeds.

It also suggests that many users would stand to benefit from upgrading to one of the faster up to 24Mbps ADSL2+ products.

Currently got the 3000 profile.

I could get 4500, but I have noticed for some unknown reason, I get connection drops every few days, regardless of profile. Sometimes get the 3500 profile and everything is fine for a few weeks, then it drops again.

I have monitored my SNR and it stays at a steady 8dB all thoughout the day and night, when the line crashes, it is sudden, the line does not dip under 6dB then restart.

My exchange is red (lack of capacity). Could this be the cause of the drops?

This is being reported by various sites as though Entanet have just released this data (in response to OFCOM's recent criticism) where in fact it has been available via their NOC site since 2007.

Hard to tell, the email didn't mention that and there's no original posting date on the page itself. Cheers for the info, looks like the charts are auto-updated so the data is correct, which is most important.
