UK ISP THUS Pulls Plug on Pipecall Voice Over Broadband Service
By: MarkJ - 15 September, 2009 (7:35 AM) - Views: 807 - Categories: Fixed Line Broadband

Business ISP THUS (Cable and Wireless) has pulled the plug on its Pipecall Voice over Internet Protocol ( VoIP ) service, describing it as being impossible to maintain. Instead the provider is encouraging existing customers to seek a comparable product from BT , which should be able to port their numbers over.

Why are you putting an end to the service?
The platform has reached the end of its serviceable life. It is not possible for THUS to effectively maintain it and deliver acceptable levels of reliability, performance and security and as such, the decision has been taken to close it.

Customers with credit on their account are being asked to contact the customer services department for a full repayment. The service itself will finally close at the end of this month. According to our latest Top 10 details, THUS had around 120,000 broadband customers a couple of years ago but has since declined to 93,000.

The move comes exactly one month after THUS launched VoIP & Web Connect, which it described as “a complete VoIP ready connectivity solution.” Unlike Pipecall the new product is a fully integrated voice and data network. Source: The Register .

Hi,

We have 3 0845's which we use on an asterisk box, we received this Mon 14th Sep "30 days" notice regd cancelation.

In the past I tried to see if we could port our numbers to another provider & hit a "minefield" that most googled companies actually no nothing about being SIP compliant nvrmind PORTING agreements.

It seems our options are all leading to a far from "yellow" brick road all ending up at "lets stifle future technologies with uncompetitive prices" BT!

BT are frankly expensive & defeat the whole idea of deploying VOIP.

Please advise a supplier who offers:-

1. SIP trunks.
2. Might be able to port our NGN’s.
3. Allows DOD’s to be masked if you have a range with them.
4. Allows multiple out/in calls over same SIP reg.
6. Fallback diverts via online control panels.
7. Cheap or free/PAYG NGN's

We (Voipfone) can do pretty much everything it sounds like you're looking for.

I've been working hard to find a method of being able to port over numbers and think it may well be possible.

Get in touch for more info, you can create an account and test our service out.

If you want to port numbers from Picecall but at the same time move to a company who specialise purely in business SIP services, please call VoIP Unlimited - we've already set up accounts for many Pipecall customers who are in the process of porting their numbers into our network. Ask any of your IPPBX manufacturers about us - you'll always get a positive response. We offer unlimited channels and 20 ddis for £10.99 per month. Further details and our tariff can be found at voip-unlimited.net
