virgin mediaCable giant Virgin Media UK has revealed that its future 200Mbps broadband (DOCSIS 3) service trials will be showcased as part of this years Ideal Home Show event in Earls Court London (20th March - 5th April). The move follows news last month that VM had expanded its 200Mbps trials (here).

Official trials of the 200Mbps service only began last year and the product itself is unlikely to surface until there is enough demand. However a tentitive launch window of 2012 has previously been hinted at. Trials of faster upstream speeds, including up to 20Mbps, are also underway.

Ashley Stockwell, Virgin's Executive Director for Brand and Marketing, said:

"Ultrafast broadband like our 200Mbps service will enable a whole household to enjoy cutting edge entertainment, not just via computers, but through an array of gadgets all over the home. By pushing the boundaries of broadband in the UK we hope to drive a change in the way Brits enjoy and experience digital entertainment and exciting new services."

However if you simply cannot wait for Virgin Media to rollout its 200Mbps service then its new superfast 100Mbps broadband package should go live by the end of this very year.

Still be held back with traffic management and port throttling :D is there much point? Oh wait, they say there isn't any, then decide to implement it quietly after you're signed up for 18 months. Should actually be illegal this sort of thing.

If you want a guaranteed 100Mb/200Mb service let me know. You'll be looking at circa 25-35k pa. The only way Virgin can deliver the service at a fair price (so somebody actually buys it) is to traffic shape/throttle the service.

I have 50Mb it has no traffic management or port throttling

£28 per month if taken with phone line £11

You pay premium you get premium cheese

H2O offer FFTH for a lot cheaper than 25-35k per year, for that money you will have SLA etc...

Gaga you talk some p!sh

What basis do you have for your comments? What evidence is there for your statements about being hit with traffic management within 18 months of signing up? Wheres your evidence they throttle ports??

How about you do us all a favour and keep your un-educated, prattling comments to yourself. If you could see past your "Sky" tinted specs you would realise that this is progress, what other provider is rolling out anything near to this on a nationwide scale?

And as a current 100Mb trialist, I can tell you that it is a reality, its not throttled or traffic managed and is a very powerful service.

I had 50 megs for 10 months now, always spot on at 51Mbps and there isn't any traffic shaping at all. It always at full speed. I pay £29 a month for broadband only in a 12 months contract with loyalty discount of £9 a month off.
