Mobile operator O2 has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that the launch of its new Home Phone (voice and line rental) services and related broadband bundles have been delayed until "
later in the spring". The products were originally announced in January 2010 and targetted to be made available from March (i.e. early spring) of the same year.
Since the start of March we have recieved a number of emails and messages from readers requesting information on why this much anticipated service has not yet arrived. Mercifully, after a little badgering, we were finally able to get a reply.
An O2 Spokesperson informed ISPreview.co.uk:
"Whenever we launch a product we always want to ensure our customers get the best service possible, particularly when you see the dissatisfaction customers have with other providers. We will be launching our Home Phone service later in the spring.
When we launched our home broadband service we took our time to ensure the experience was the best it could be. The result has been an award-winning product which now has over half a million subscribers and the most satisfied broadband customers of any of the main providers in the market."
The spring months usually run from around March to May. This statement suggests that O2 will miss its March launch and instead surface sometime later next month or during May. The news will be disappointing to those who had been eagerly awaiting O2's new bundles, which will turn the provider into a triple-play operator (mobile, fixed line and broadband).
Further details on what services will be available when O2's Home Phone service does finally launch can be found in our original news item from January (
here).
UPDATE 23rd March 2010Sources inform us that the delayed launch has come about because O2 isn't entirely satisfied with the product yet and wants to make sure that the customer experience is good enough for launch.
