The much anticipated O2
Home Phone (line rental plus free voices calls) and
Home Broadband service bundles have today officially become available. The Home Phone products cost from £9.50 per month and must be bundled with one of the operators 'up to' 20Mbps Home Broadband packages. New customers will also benefits from O2's current 3 MONTHS FREE broadband promotion.
Sally Cowdry, O2 Marketing Director, said:
"At O2, we’ve been listening to our customers and we’ve realised that many of them want great value, an end to hidden costs and the convenience of being able to pay their home phone and broadband bills together.
That is exactly what they will get from us now we have launched Home Phone - truly transparent and flexible pricing plans and convenient consolidated billing. O2 is committed to providing the same quality of service with Home Phone that we have established with our broadband over the years."
O2 hopes that the launch of its Home Phone service will further boost its share of the UK broadband market, which currently stands at around 600,000 subscribers. The operator frequently wins praise for the quality of its unbundled ( LLU ) broadband packages and value for money, coming top in many awards and studies; it's BT based 'up to' 8Mbps
Access package is less well favoured.
The 2010 uSwitch broadband customer satisfaction report rated O2 the overall winner after it came top in 10 out of 11 categories, with 92% of its customers being satisfied (
here). Likewise they also took 1st place in a recent J.D. Power and Associates 2010 ISP Customer Satisfaction survey (
here).
It's important to point out that the above broadband costs (i.e. £7.50 for 'Standard') reference the lower prices that existing O2 Mobile customers pay. Those who do not have an O2 mobile phone service would pay £12.50 a month for Standard, £15 for Premium and £22.50 for Pro. A 12 month contract applies.
It's noted that additional features such as call divert, caller display, call waiting and call baring can easily be added as bolt-ons. Sadly the Home Phone product cannot be taken separately and must be bundled with a broadband package. The 3 Months FREE promotion only applies to new customers taking broadband for the first time.
