statisticsA new survey of 6,000 broadband users in the UK has revealed that more than half are believed to be "wasting money on outdated [and] overpriced packages" because they have not changed ISP for at least three years. This is despite a claimed drop of 34% in average standalone package prices and a 130% increase in download speeds over the same period.

The BroadbandChoices study naturally believes this to be "proof" that consumers are overpaying for their service, which is probably true for some. However the linear study does not take account of the fact that many providers, albeit not all, do pass price adjustments on to their customers; often when lengthy contract periods require renewal.

The survey also fails to consider that a broadband internet connection is about more than price. Service quality and additional value added features can also be major reasons why a consumer might choose to remain with one ISP over cheaper alternatives. Just because somebody is paying extra doesn't mean to say they're getting a bad service.

Ha ! I am still with PlusNet 5 years on. The main reason is my Market 1 / NO LLU exchange means double the LLU price and NO REAL CHOICE !
I am in fact hanging on to 'obsolete' tarrif to avoid price increase..., though that means I still have very MEAN 2GB limit.
Regards,
Martin

i pay £17 pm with Be* for 24mb unlimited
in reality i get about 13-16mb on a good day -

in appearance it appears expansive - but in reality - based on 100s of online reviews it seems ISPs run their lines in very different ways. Many people complain of issues with packages around the £8-10 pm mark which i simply never have problems with.

I want to pay to be left alone to use the service as i wish. I don't want traffic shaping, dropped connections and limited downloads. Many cheap packages manage to manifest all three .

I wish the OFcom would force package descriptions to reflect in truth , what they are able to deliver rather than describe what the over subscribed technology could deliver if they didnt over exploit.
