demon logoHome and business ISP Demon Internet UK (THUS Group, Cable and Wireless) has announced the introduction of its new multiplayer online gaming product, Demon Game Pro. The package, which offers broadband download speeds of up to 20Mbps (1Mbps uploads), aims to deliver lower network latency, improved ping times and internet traffic prioritization.

The service, which will be assisted by a 24 hour UK based in-house technical support team (many of whom are apparently avid gamers, Demon claims), costs £21.99 per month (12 month contract) and also adds a FREE wireless router, static IP address and no usage restrictions off peak, 100GB peak (8am to 11pm).

Matt Cantwell, Head of Demon Internet, commented:

"We know how important a good broadband connection is to the gaming community, and we are excited to be launching this product which has been designed to meet the specific needs of gamers. At Demon we appreciate that a better connection allows better gaming, and are confident that gamers will see the benefits that this service offers them."

We note that a connection fee of £29.99 also applies and those wanting a shorter 3 month contract can have that too, albeit at the higher price of £23.99 per month. Launch offer pricing is available until 31st October 2010.

This is a curious step for Thus, I haven't yet seen an ISP pull off a successful gaming connection/service that has been able to be viable in the long-term, I expect they'll probably revoke this within 12 months.

What people don't realise is that any ISP package at the top of their range is exactually the same as this. Take O2 for example, their highest package is up to 20 meg with Unlimited downloads(I have not been told about a limit for on peak times) and the upload is higher than 1 meg for the same price or close to it. I am an avid gamer and Id rather be with O2 than these... This is just a gymmick that won't work as proper games(not facebook gamers)know exactally what they are looking for in a broadband connection anyway

Got to say Martin,

Aquiss' ToC about peak times is rediculous, 8am - midnight is peak times??? I work for an ISP(non gaming specific) and their peak times are what should be considered peak times(6pm to 11pm) for the amount charged by Aquiss, I would rather go for Demon internet or a non gaming specific one and deal with traffic shaping by that ISP, £50 to use 120gb of data during normal living hours???...

Mike S, I welcome your comments however our defined name for "peak" does not mean that when we get the traffic. You sound like you work for an ISP that has the majority of it's traffic in the evenings, rather than a more balanced approach. We don't as 70% of our customers of business clients. We currently have just shy of 4000 customers on our gaming range, and we don't hear any complaints, so maybe your ISP would like to come get some advice from myself, afterall I have nearly 15 years experience in connectivity ;)

Dude - thats nonsense, lower latency will help and traffic shaping will assist in that - you obviously do not know what you are on about and I don't think playing farmville is a proper game....

I thought other ISPs such as PlusNet already prioritised VoIP and gaming traffic as standard?

Demon is one of the most congested networks that f8lure monitors (other than Supanet) but the congestion is during office hours, so probably gone by the time the gamers want to game ;).

I would avoid from the info I can see.
