Customers of the
BT Total Broadband service, specifically those whom also own an
Apple iPhone or
Android based Smartphone, can now make better use of the ISP's "
unlimited" UK
Wi-Fi Hotspot access through a FREE app. The app automatically connects customers to BT's network of 1.6 million public hotspots and includes a mapping service, which is updated weekly so that users can find their nearest access point.
Users with an iPhone or Android device can download the free application today from the
iTunes App Store or the
Android Market. Once
BT customers have downloaded the app, all they need to do is input their btinternet email username and password, and choose to be automatically logged in whenever they are in a
BT Wi-Fi area.
BT
Wi-Fi access is unlimited and free for
BT Total Broadband customers, thus the operator claims that its new app will help to reduce the chance of customers racking up extra costs on their mobile phone bills. This of course assumes that customers would not know how to perform the same process by hand.
John Petter, MD of BT Retail's Consumer Divison, said:"Millions of
BT Total Broadband customers already get free access to the UK’s biggest
Wi-Fi network. This free app makes accessing
Wi-Fi so simple you don’t even have to think about it. This represents real value to our customers at a time when more and more people are using their mobile phone to access the internet. By downloading it now customers can also help
BBC Children in Need."
To celebrate the launch,
BT is also giving 50p to
BBC Children in Need for each FREE
BT FON based application downloaded, until they reach a target of £10,000. Once £10,000 is reached no more donations will be given to
BBC Children in Need as a result of this promotion.
