The
North of England and
Northern Ireland have been hit by another outage of
20CN based BT broadband services. It's the second one to hit ISPs since a major disruption at the weekend (
here) downed tens of thousands of ADSL connections.
It's known that some parts of North England and N.Ireland have continued to struggle with performance and connectivity woes since the weekend. BT claims that it is still experiencing "
localised disruption to some broadband services" as a result of related technical issues.
Today's outage appears to have been less severe, beginning at just before midday and with many of the problems centralising themselves on faulty hardware at
Edinburgh's broadband
Remote Access Servers (RAS). At the time of writing BT has been able to restore most of the lines and hopes to have the situation completely resolved by around 4pm.
UPDATE 3pmBT claims that all services should now be restored, although some customers may need to reboot their routers and wait a few minutes before they're reconnected.
UPDATE 4th November 2010Many customers are still reporting connection difficulties and indeed BT's own service status page has not yet closed the related incident report, despite yesterday claiming to have resolved the problem. UK ISP PlusNet has the best explanation.
PlusNet Service Status Statement (03/11/2010 @ 18:00)
We have received an update from our suppliers [BT] advising us that service has now been restored. Due to a number of 'cleanup activities' that need to be carried out though, there is still a possibility that this issue is affecting your broadband service.
The situation has been confirmed by several other UK ISPs. We also note that several dial codes in Scotland still appear to have been affected.
