ispa ukThe UK Internet Service Providers Association ( ISPA ) has officially revealed the finalists for its 13th annual internet industry awards for 2011. As well as the usual 'Best Consumer Fixed Broadband' ISP gongs, this year also includes two new categories - 'Best Over the Top TV' and 'Best Managed Service'.

In total, 46 companies have been nominated, with 6 of those receiving 3 nominations across various different categories (Catalyst2, C4L, Exa Networks, KC, MacAce.net, O2 UK, UKFast and Virgin Media). Be Broadband won the gong for Best Consumer Fixed ISP last year and will be defending its crown in 2011 too (ISPA 2010 Award Winners).

ISPA Secretary General, Nicholas Lansman, said:

"We received an impressive amount of entries again this year and I would like to thank everyone for entering and taking part in the testing and wish you all the best of luck for the 7th July."

There don't appear to be any major surprises this year, although we're always sad to see highly rated ISPs like Zen Internet , ICUK , AAISP , IDNet and others being left off the award shortlists.

Historically the Internet Hero and Internet Villain award finalists usually follow two or three weeks later. All of the winners will be unveiled on the 7th July 2011 at the Lancaster London Hotel. Tickets for the event can be purchased via the ISPA Awards website: http://www.ispaawards.org.uk .

UPDATE 12:43pm

We've been informed that the reason for Zen and AAISP being a no show this year is because neither ISP chose to enter this year's awards competition.

Also, in regards to the Internet Hero and Villain awards, the ISPA informs that for the first time they're going to be asking members of the public for their suggestions next week to put together a shortlist. Have your suggestions at the ready.

The ISPA awards are slightly different in that to make the shortlist for the majority of categories you have 'win' in a performance test. The judges are given that list to then decide based on various criteria in addition to the performance section.

(I'm not a judge any more but have done it in the past)
