New Copyright Laws to Have Minimal Impact on Users of UK ISP BE Broadband

Popular ISP Be Broadband UK, which tends to attract customers with a stronger knowledge of I.T than most, has revealed in a new study that many (47%) of its members "would take steps to conceal [their] identity" on P2P (file sharing) networks but only if the new internet copyright protection laws (Digital Economy Act) comes into force.BE Statement
In April, the Digital Economy Act continued its lumbering progress towards reality when the High Court threw out an appeal against the Act. If you’ve been keeping track of the #DEAct so far you’ll know that lots of people disliked the speed that it was pushed through parliament and also the Act’s provisions to tackle filesharing, which some say are open to abuse.
We wanted to know what our members thought so we launched a brief survey to find people’s opinions about the act.

The study, which gained just 354 responses, found that 86% were aware of the Digital Economy Act and 52% understood some but not all of the section that deals with filesharing of copyright material (33% understood it all).
BE claims that the survey results will "helps us to understand your attitudes towards these important issues and what you expect from your broadband," although the ISP stopped short of revealing its own position.
