This is what Plus.net do. Lure people in with cheap prices and then fail to provide any kind of decent service. I feel for anyone that falls for this.

Gareth,

"Lure people in with cheap prices and then fail to provide any kind of decent service"

I'm with Plusnet and have been since June last year, I've had no problems with their service! On the few occasions I've had to contact support they have been excellent! It's been a breathe of fresh air using Plusnet after enduring lies from TalkTalk!

I've been with Plusnet since about April 2011, and found the staff very helpful. I can only get the upto 8mb service where I live, but they only charge me £11.49 every month for the 60gb extra package. Internet has been with only a little congestion over the christmas period.

Very interesting, but some questions really must be considered.

Is this just a poor response to the fact that Sky will be offering unlimited fibre broadband services this April for £20 per month?

If PlusNet is actually owned by BT, why cant BT offer better prices directly and openly to the public?

Is it not time for companies to start thinking about longer term deals at fear prices rather than short term introductory ones, considering that the nature of broadband usage is at a almost revolutionary point in time in with respect to more comprehensive general use of higher volumes of data in the home & small business.

Maybe what we need right now is some real competition, perhaps it will be a forced event in the form of high speed mobile / wireless broadband access services.

Re Burytec's comment about PlusNet - I think that like many short term offers, it's an attractive price to be able to "shout about it" and isn't a poor response but (like every deal one sees mentioned on ISPreview) part of the ongoing marketing to continue to maintain or grow market share.

At least with PlusNet, taking their phone service doesn't tie you into a 12 month contract. I have not checked the fine print for this but suspect one could ditch the phone service (and move to another) without losing the benefits of the introductory reduction.
