Breaking: PM to crack down on internet porn sites
Michael Savage Political Correspondent
Last updated at 6:47PM, May 3 2012

Internet porn sites could be automatically blocked as part of a plan to protect children from graphic imagines online, David Cameron will suggest tomorrow. It emerged tonight that ministers are to consult on whether adults wanting to view porn should be forced to “opt in” in order to access erotic sites. The Prime Minister will announce that the current law needs to be examined to ensure that families can use the internet in safety. His move will be seen as part of a relaunch after weeks of setbacks, including a badly received Budget and what were expected to be poor results in today’s local elections. The decision to explore the option, which will anger some internet service providers, came after a Downing St breakfast meeting of creative industry figures today.

I really hope Cameron doesn't sink this low tomorrow. Trying to distract the public from poor local election results with this tabloid driven topic will really lower my estimation of him. :hrmph:

How an ISP will even implement that for current customers or get things right with regards to opt-in or out for every customer when there are millions to do is anyones guess.

Sometimes i truly wonder what goes through the minds of the morons in parliament.

They only launched 'Active Choice' at the end of last year, which is just now being implemented, and before that's even given a chance we're going to get mandatory filters enabled by default? I hope this isn't true as it's a serious step too far. Default censorship is only popular with a minority of parents so I'm not sure where they get the idea that this would be a good vote winner.

I think its more to deflect from the current cascade of balls ups going on, everything from the budget to Syria and our soon to obviously be nose poking out there. Must be running out of oil since killing off Saddam. :crap:

And in the same vein -

Authorities in Europe are ready to lay out plans to introduce an electronic identity system across Europe, with the proposals to be unveiled at the end of this month.

On Wednesday, the European Commission published a strategy document aimed at setting up systems to protect children online. In the document (PDF) — but not in the accompanying press release nor the citizens' summary — the Commission mentioned that it will soon propose a "pan-European framework for electronic authentication".

A spokesman for digital agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes said the Commission "will have full e-ID proposals on 30 May".

Rest of article ...

I just can't help but wonder how long it will be before someone thinks it's a good idea to extend an ID system to adults, maybe like South Korea -

Many South Korean websites require the submission of a valid resident registration number in order for users to register an account. This practice ties each registered account to a unique online identity, rather than allowing anonymous registration. Because only a few large websites allow alternate means of identification, such as an alien registration number or passport number, foreigners cannot use many South Korean websites.

The principal means of authenticating a valid resident registration number is to use an algorithm to check the last digit against what it should be based upon the rest of the digits entered.

There is an alternative for the online use of Resident Registration Number called i-PIN (Internet Personal Identification Number) for South Korean internet users.

you forgot something.. the first and foremost thought of any politician, the main thought that goes through any of their heads is to protect their own interests.

that is to make buckets of money and evade taxes through loopholes. after all the proof is in the fact that the rich have become even more filthy rich over the past year while we have lost much more... lm pretty sure someone worked out an approximate figure which indicated the amount of cuts we have faced is virtually equal to the amount of money the richest in our country have made this in the past two years between them all. so l ask this question, if politics isnt about lining ones own pockets why do they leave the loopholes that allow them to pocket millions and also not dipped into their own gold plated pensions for all the cuts they have been forcing us to endure?

How come the message is still up despite the ban?

I wonder why he has Irish and Welsh but no Scottish or English language books.

Sorry folks, thought that had been sorted.

Since they only have to make things legal or illegal it doesn't matter if it is possible to do or impossible to do. That is somebody else's problem.

It's like the banning of the Pirate Bay people. It only applied to the text The Pirate Bay nott eh actual IP number for the address.

actually its only applied to their main domain.. seems its been running under two different domains for a while so its like they missed one on purpose lol.

According to the original court documents, it can apply to both IP addresses and known domains for the Pirate Bay. The problem is that they can change this as much as they like and it thus becomes an endless game of whack-a-mole. Meanwhile anybody else who wants to view the site can just circumvent the ISP blocks.

the funny thing is l know quite a few ppl on the ISPs that have supposedly blocked TPB, however they still have unrestricted access to the site without using VPNs etc.

Not on O2 or BE, they appear to be one of the few that have blocked the actual domain name and IP address. All the mirrors of the site though obviously still work LOL
