Good news, my mp3 player turned up today!!!

But

Tried updating the firmware as recommended..now only it starts in safe mode stating 'Firmware Problem' and i cant do anything with it. If i turn it on/off..the pc bing bongs at me (USB disconnected noises)..in device manager it 'working properly' but i cant detect it anywhere to reload the firmware. Been through all the help pages, no joy.

Just thought id ask here before i now go for the uninstall route.....

EDIT..done that and still no joy..gettin the 'connected' sounds but click the firmware .exe and it says 'device not connected'.

Its the Creative Zen Touch..40g

HELP

I spoke too soon...

I just cannot get my pc to recognise the Zen is attached!!! It still shows in device manager as workin properly..the Zen itself knows its attached..even Windows Media Player (reverted to 10) knows its there..but i cant do anything with it.????????

When i 1st plug in..i get the autoplay box..but its empty..the icon in the system tray is a white square with a blue line across the top (you know the icon i mean) which swiftly disappears..and i'm left with nada.

HELP please???? I've re installed several times now i just cant get anywhere with it.

EDIT..Im on XP home..AMD chip (if that matters these days)..just managed to get some tunes on via sync with media player..but 'My Computer' still can't see it.

did you install the drivers from the CD? I told you once you upgrade the firmware the CD becomes useless and you need to update the drivers found here

basically the files you need are..

Creative Zen Touch PlaysForSure Firmware 2.11.01

update to that..

then install

Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version 1.30.03

and finally install..

Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players

hope that helps

Hello mate..yes i did get the drivers etc...the problem is..the player now says its running on the new firmware, but i had to apply that via another pc. I then install the new driver on my pc..now the probs start..

To install the creative suite you need to have the player connected..and my pc wont recognise that it is connected. With device manager i update the driver...something called an MTP..then windows will register its connected..but only as a 'portable device' and the suite still wont run..

I got a cd on it via WMP and all is fine...so i guess the firmware update went well...they just wont 'talk' to each other...i really can't figure it out..maybe re-apply the firmware??

Is there anything to do that'll make windows 'forget it' and start over? (noting..the first time i tried to apply the firmware was on my pc..and it went wrong....)

Though it does sound nice what i did get on!!!!!

EDIT...ok, through curiosity i tried to instal the new drivers and Creative Suite on my Mums pc...guess what..it all went well, i see how it should be..also proves the firmware update is ok...

but

That now means the problem lies in my pc . Any ideas in how to rectify this..or are we talkin a XP re-install??

Like i said previous, i see it as i need to make XP forget the Zen was ever there and start over...
Answers on a postcard, please...

Try add remove programs, and then go looking for drivers. I doubt its obvious what driver it installed.

And you may have to do registery removals.

Is it a big problem tho? Unless you have over 40 Gig of music, cant you get it how you want, then either lug your PC to your mums, or vice versa, and transfer it to that.

Then slap it on your Zen, and hopefully wont need updating often. If it does, you can whack it on a rewritable CD/dvd and use your mums comp.

Bit of a hash about I know, but might be the easiest option.

Dude, its more a case of i want the thing to work properly, ya know?

Before i tried the failed firmware update..it all worked as it should...the firmware upgrade froze...for ages (after seein my Mums pc do it right..it was obviuos mine was, indeed, going nowhere fast) since then..i've had this trouble.

I've deleted all creative registry entries before (granted i never used 'show hidden folders'..maybe there one hiding!!) reboot..re install..NADA. It knows its there for WMP to sync with it..why not anywhere else..

Pootas, great when they work right..

After it worked fine on the other pc..i didn't see any reason too? The 3 cds i put on play fine and it works fine.

Just exceptin the other..i just done uninstallin and cleanin up registry etc.. (check the software forum had few folks help there too.)

Just got some other stuff to do..then i'm gonna reapply the driver..updated only..then keep my fingers crossed...
