It seems like only yesterday that I was connecting with ISDN ...

I wonder how many of the people connected using broadband actually make use of all the speed it has to offer; how many are just using it to do the same old things they once did with dial-up ?

Probably quite a lot, but that isn't a bad thing IMO.

A member of my family was on dial-up, and getting increasingly frustrated with waiting for even basic pages to load. A reputable ISP started an offer of free bb for a year, with a 2Gb cap - given that my relative only really wanted to browse & email, that's plenty.

So now he still only uses the web for browsing (although that now includes shopping online whereas it didn't before) because it is fast enough to work with inducing acute frustration.

I agree, and long ago I saw that web pages were no longer being made with dialup users in mind.

So even the basic web browsing and emailing (often there are attachments) have changed.

And you really need a broadband connection to stay secure. With updates for windows and antivirus, not to mention any third party programs (such as office), its incredibly frustrating when most the time spent online is downloading them.

And of course, it means you cannot use the phone in the meantime.

That was also a frustration that led my relative to take up bb. He wanted to browse, wife wanted to talk to friends & family.

I never use to download software app/game demos (brought magazines and demo CD/DVD's instead), watch movie trailers or visit sites likes YouTube pre-broadband.. but now I do. Likewise I'd always leave e-mails with attachments on the mail server.

Broadband has changed my online surfing habits and flexibility for the better .

I used to listen to FM radio, until I got broadband...
now I listen to internet radio (www.di.fm)

It just shows how much [self censored] there is on FM radio nowadays.
