South Yorkshire ISP Origin Broadband claims to have lowered the prices across their “entire range” of residential broadband and phone packages, including their superfast “fibre broadband” (FTTC) deals. Now if they could only be clearer about the public pricing of it all.

The UK telecoms regulator is considering granting “transitional” approval to a number of manually configured devices that harness the new White Space technology, which uses the gaps in radio spectrum between digital TV (UHF 470MHz to 790MHz) channels in order to deliver wireless broadband or other communication services over a wide area.

Ultrafast fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has announced that residents of The Basilica, a development (apartment block) in the city centre, have become the first of many buildings in the city of Leeds (West Yorkshire, England) to benefit from their new symmetric 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB) broadband network.

Mobile operator EE, which could shortly become a part of the BT Group, has announced that their long planned trial of ultrafast 400Mbps capable 4G LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) based Mobile Broadband technology with Qualcomm and Huawei, which they’ve dubbed 4G+, will next month go live at Wembley Stadium in London.

Low cost broadband and phone provider TalkTalk could be facing a fine from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) after they finally coughed up to a serious customer data breach, which last year caused some of their subscribers to be hit by a spate of Indian-based scam callers.

The telecoms regulator has today published their latest Q1-2015 report into the real-world performance of the largest fixed line broadband ISPs and their customers across the United Kingdom, which found that the average download speed has increased by 21.93% over the past six months to top 22.8Mbps (NOTE: Most of this boost came from urban areas, with rural and suburban being fairly flat).

Budget Internet and phone provider TalkTalk has teamed up with LivePerson in order to “move” from traditional telephone-based customer service to a “more advanced online engagement technology“. Apparently this means “quadrupling” the number of customer service enquiries it handles via online chat agents.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has sided with an interesting BT complaint against a press advert for TalkTalk’s SimplyBroadband package, which complained that a “half-price” offer of £1.75 per month was “not a genuine sale price” because the standard price of £3.50 had not been used for long enough.
