Government Claims 7.8 Million UK Internet Users Make Illegal Downloads

The Government has today published its fifth wave study into the extent of online copyright infringement by broadband ISP and mobile data consumers, which estimates that 18% of UK Internet users aged 12+ (7.8 million people) had consumed at least one item of “illegal” online content and 6% “exclusively consumed illegal content“.

A new survey of 2,000 British adults from Global Wireless Solutions (GWS) has claimed that 1 in 4 people are using a Mobile Broadband (3G, 4G) connection at home in order to get online because their fixed line broadband fuelled home WiFi service is not good enough.

UK Advertising Watchdog Slaps Virgin Media for Mid-Contract Price Hikes

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld two complaints against website adverts for Virgin Media’s cable broadband and phone deals, which they ruled were misleading due to the operator raising the cost above what they promoted and thus being in breach of Ofcom’s rules on mid-contract price hikes.

Zen Internet Touts UK Growth and Explains Accounts Blip

UK ISP Zen Internet, which is now home to 430 staff, has revealed that their operating profits surged 34% from £760,000 to £1.02m in the year to the end of September 2014 and revenues rose 6.8% from £47.36m (2013) to £50.62m. But there were also a few blips for the accounts department to tackle.

BT Openreach Start Inviting ISPs to 500Mb NGA2 G.fast Broadband Trial

BTOpenreach has told ISPreview.co.uk that the first large-scale residential trial of their future G.fast broadband technology (details), which the telecoms operator expects to sell via the Next Generation Access 2 (NGA2) tag, will begin next month in Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire) and ISPs are now being invited.
