BT Refreshes Choice of 3 Tech Gadgets with Home Broadband

UK ISP BT has changed their gadget offer for June, which means that new customers who take one of their broadband bundles are being offered the choice of either a free Amazon Echo, JBL 650 Live Headphones or Samsung Tablet A when they sign-up to the service. This is on top of the usual reward cards (pre-paid MasterCard).

Each package includes an 18 month contract term, phone line rental, unlimited data usage, a wireless router (usually a Smart Hub 1 or 2), Cloud storage (online backup), Virus Protect, Parental Controls, Call Protect (stops nuisance calls), free access to BT’s national network of public WiFi hotspots and a speed guarantee (i.e. claim £20 back if you suffer slower than the minimum expected speed for your line).

Apparently this offer will run until Thursday 20th June at 11:59pm and customers will receive an email, 14 days after their broadband has installed, to let them know how to claim their chosen gadget. We’re only going to list the packages below that include these gadgets as the others haven’t really changed. The gadget offer also applies if you add a Pay TV service to these.

At the start of this year the operator also said they would “not be increasing prices for BT broadband, home phone and mobile plans in 2019” and from 2020 they’ll instead adopt price increases linked to inflation (here). Sadly you also have some of the most expensive post-contract prices in the consumer broadband market for ADSL and FTTC plans (G.fast and FTTP are better value), so that may not be much of a consolation.

Seems a lot of trouble to go to for a free pair of headphones (even if they are JBL).

Better to buy the headphones and bypass the endless toothache that is BT …

Toothache:a good way of describing the pain of trying to get anywhere with a company that runs your account to sute themselves and couldn’t give a toss about you.
    Give me toothache any day.
