Broadband ISP Plusnet Doubles BT Sport TV Price from £5 to £10

Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 (7:28 am) - Score 3,880

Customers of UK ISP Plusnet, which is a BT sibling company, who take the £5 per month BTSport TV App add-on on a 30 day contract have been left in shock after the provider suddenly began informing them that the price they currently pay would be hiked by 100% from 17th September 2019.

According to a notification received by the provider’s customers, “This is so BT Sport can continue to give you all the great exclusive content you’ve come to expect.” In response to the inevitable gripes on social media the ISP said it was “sorry” and added: “Despite the increase, we’re still significantly cheaper than most other vendors of BT Sport by quite a large margin, although we can certainly appreciate your frustrations.

In fairness the move is in keeping with changes elsewhere and a quick test of BT’s own ordering system shows that it also costs +£10 to add the BTSport App to a broadband package on their parent operator, although the disadvantage with BT is that you’re tied into a longer contract term of 18 or 24 months.

Prices for adding BT Sport tend to vary across different platforms and bundles, although at present only a smaller subset of Plusnet’s own customers take the paid BTSport App add-on.

They also lost thousands of cancellations when they put UFC on their Box Office channel, this is just BT desperately trying to get their money back as it stung them and the same is expected to happen again for UFC 242 as they’re trying it again hoping to get more due to it being on earlier but they’re already recieving the same backlash.

Box Office only came in for them in December so it’s all a case of trying to rinse the fans but it’s backfired, this really is a case of them trying to make their money up after damaging themselves with this Box Office situation.

They don’t even have the Box Office channel available on the Plusnet platform making this price increase even more ridiculous and less value, it’s still the cheapest but I don’t think Plusnet had a choice in this, it’s BT who have lost money by shooting themselves in the foot, they were even calling customers for feedback over it.

I feel sorry for Plusnet to be honest because they’re gonna ge the backlash now too.

I don’t know what the fuss is about – Plusnet are just doing you proud like they claim they’ll do…

You’re not very smart are you Vince. It’s still the cheapest way to watch BT Sport without pirating it.

BT Sport is always a biggest rip off by BT. The only way to watch it for free via online streaming.

I hope they are going to add a cricket channel for the extra like sky did or even golf.
