Earlier this week Hull-based ISP KCOM launched a cheap £25 for 30Mbps offer (here) to help entice new customers on to their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Now Pure Broadband, which uses the same network, is giving existing users a way to get the same deal.

Broadband ISP Talk Talk Business (TTB) this week claims to have become the “first to launch a unique” new HomeWorker package from £20.95 +vat per month per line, which they say will enable businesses to offer business-grade connectivity to UK employees working from home during the COVID-19 crisis.

Fixed wireless access provider Orbital Net (Vfast) and new entrant MGMT have separately today both revealed that they’re developing plans for future roll-outs of a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, albeit in different parts of England and Scotland. Both intend to target areas that are currently poorly served.

Fixed wireless broadband UK ISP Secure Web Services, which currently offers a “superfast broadband” network at speeds of up to 30Mbps (5Mbps upload) across some rural parts of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys, has stated that they’re planning to upgrade their network to offer “gigabit broadband” (1Gbps+) for homes.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk UK has revealed that the release of the Season 3 update for online video game Fortnite on 17th June 2020, as well as the combined return of the Premier League (Football), sent internet traffic over their network to its “second highest peak … this year” of 6.12Tbps (Terabits per second).

Cable broadband ISP Virgin Media has announced that they’re recruiting for 98 new positions at their Sheffield contact centre, which is on top of the 500 customer service jobs (here) that were recently brought back to the UK following COVID-19 related lockdowns in other countries (where they’ve previously outsourced).

The City of London Corporation has today announced that they will be handing out a “one off pre-loaded dongle device free of charge that will provide data to access the internet,” which will be provided to those who may be unable to leave home as a result of COVID-19 or cannot afford their own broadband access.

Hull-based UK ISP KCOM has launched a cheaper Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband package (it’s actually more of a special offer on an existing plan) to help broaden their appeal, which will give new customers an unlimited 30Mbps (15Mbps upload) service from just £25 per month (normally £40).

Business ISP MLL Telecom has today announced that they’ve been chosen by Nottinghamshire County Council as the sole UK supplier for a regional 4-year framework and the related provision of Wide Area Network (WAN) services (site-to-site and site-to-internet/cloud connectivity). The framework has a value of £250m.

EE (BT) and Nokia have announced that, as part of their support for the much delayed UK Emergency Services Network (ESN), they will build the “world’s first” 4G LTE (mobile broadband) based Air-to-Ground communications network to support 300,000 emergency service personnel (range from 500 to 10,000 feet above ground).

Broadband ISP Virgin Media has today revealed new insights on the extent of internet traffic growth during the COVID-19 lockdown, such as the fact that households on their network have downloaded an “extra” 325GB (GigaBytes) on average during lockdown so far.

Belfast-based UK ISP Fibrus, which recently began the £85m+ roll-out of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in Northern Ireland and aims to cover 145,000 premises by around 2024 (here), has now committed to help ensure that 100% of homes can access such services by the end of 2025.

Mobile operator Vodafone has announced that the small village of Devauden in the Wye Valley (Wales) has become the first to receive a faster 4G based mobile (mobile broadband) service as part of the new £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN), which aims to help extend geographic 4G cover to 95% of the UK by the end of 2025.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has just published their annual Bigger Picture Impact Report 2019, which reveals how much progress they’ve made toward their goal of becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030 (#GoZero). So far they’ve cut their Group carbon intensity from 6.9 tCO2e/£m revenue in 2018 to 6.54 tCO2e/£m in 2019.
