Mobile operator EE (BT) have put their new Rapid Response Vehicles (RRV) to the test with fire crews on Saddleworth Moor, which are intended to be used as a way to deploy 4G network coverage in remote areas under the government’s new £1.2bn Emergency Services Network (ESN).

The Broadband Stakeholder Group think-tank, which advises the UK Government, has today published new research from Analysys Mason that identifies 13 specific barriers (reflecting practical challenges in planning and roll-out) to deployment of future 5G mobile infrastructure. Mobile operator EE has today launched a new range of 4G based Mobile Broadband plans and devices, which includes their 4GEE WiFi router that supports the latest Category 12 (3GPP Release 11) LTE specification for top download speeds of up to 600Mbps and uploads of up to 100Mbps (capacity and network allowing).

A new survey from Three UK claims to reveal that SMEs believe mobile technology and internet access (mobile broadband) is better on their mobiles phones than on other devices, while 23% still find mobile tariffs to be complicated. As such the operator has launched a three new 4G plans called ‘Simply Business‘.

The joint Connecting Devon and Somerset project has launched a new consultation on their plan to invest £2.5 million of Growth Deal funding into improving indoor 4G mobile data (broadband) coverage across the two counties, which will focus on tackling “not-spots” around the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) areas.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has put £5.6m toward supporting the launch of their new ‘Delivering Digital Connectivity Strategy’, which aims to “significantly improve mobile, broadband and public WiFi coverage, whilst securing future proof full fibre [FTTP] and 5G networks.”
