Staffordshire UK Name First BDUK and BT Fibre Broadband Areas

The state aid supported £28m Superfast Staffordshire project in the West Midlands (England) has published a list of the first communities to benefit from their roll-out of BT’s superfast broadband (FTTC/P) technology, which will be extended to cover 95% of the local population by spring 2016.

BTOpenreach has announced that it will soon reduce the minimum lead time for new orders of their Self-Install (PCP Only) superfast broadband Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) product from 7 to just 5 working days, which mirrors the existing Managed Install (engineer visit required) option.

Scientists writing for the Royal Society of Edinburgh (Digital-Scotland Working Group) have warned that the Scottish Government’s Step Change programme, which apparently now aims to make BT’s “superfast broadband” network available to “around” 95% of local premises by the end of 2017-18, will actually only achieve less than 80%.

Telecoms giant BT has announced that it will create more than 1,000 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs. On top of that the operator is supporting the employer-led “Movement to Work” initiative, which aims to tackle youth unemployment by providing up to 1,500 vocational training and work experience placements over the next 18 months.

BT Wholesale’s incident helpdesk manager has told the boss of broadband provider AAISP, Adrian Kennard, that they’re “fully committed to ensuring that all capacity issues are addressed” after concerns over alleged network congestion on several of BT’s 21st Century Network (21CN) telephone exchanges were raised.

Customers of BT’s YouView (IPTV) and broadband powered TV service have today been introduced to a much smaller version of their set-top-box (DTR-T2100) device (partly because it doesn’t need a fan), which adopts a similar style to the operators Home Hub 4 and Home Hub 5 routers. Residents and businesses on and around Melford Road in the small market town of Sudbury (Suffolk, England) have been left without broadband and phone services since 4th February 2014 when a car hit a local BT telegraph pole and damaged its cables.
