Telecoms provider New Call Telecom, which owns low cost ISP Fuel Broadband (formerly Primus Saver), has today claimed to be the “fastest growing residential broadband provider” in the United Kingdom after they were ranked 53rd in the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 list.

Doncaster-based ISP Origin Broadband appears to be recovering from last year’s rocky collapse of the failed £100m Digital Region network and has reported that turnover is up 400% on the last six months, with the provider adding 300 residential and up to 400 business customers a month.

The Broadband Stakeholders Group, which advises the Government on broadband matters, has published a new report that aims to predict the future requirements of small UK businesses (SMEs). The conclusion finds that SMEs will see median downstream demand rise from 5Mbps in 2015 to just 8.1Mbps by 2025, but the overall picture is more complex.

The Government’s Connection Voucher scheme, which offers grants worth between £100 and £3,000 to help SMEs around 50 UK cities get a superfast broadband (30Mbps+) service installed, has confirmed that 40,941 businesses have now benefitted from the vouchers (up sharply from 15K in Q1 2015).

Ofcom’s latest Telecoms Market Data update has revealed that the United Kingdom achieved a milestone of 24 million fixed line residential and small business broadband ISP connections (excluding corporate lines) in Q1 2015 (up by +277K since Q4 2014), which is 967,000 (4.2%) more than a year ago.

A new survey of 1,141 small and medium sized business bosses, which was conducted by the Daisy Group, has found that a staggering 92% have virtually no understanding of data centres, while 75% have no clue about VoIP and 44% are puzzled by “fibre broadband” (ISPs sometimes get that one wrong too).
