Scotland-based UK business ISP Commsworld today claims to have become the first operator to take advantage of Openreach’s (BT) new Dark Fibre X (DFX) product, which is only focused upon serving the limited inter-exchange connectivity market. As a result broadband speeds of 10Gbps may reach several Borders towns.

Civil engineering firm Morrison Telecom Services (MTS), part of the M Group Services, has today secured an Openreach (BT) Network Services Agreement (ONSA), which will see them helping the operator to deploy and maintain their fibre broadband ISP networks across multiple parts of the UK.

UK ISP TalkTalk has today reported their first trading update (Q3 FY2020 financial) since they agreed to sell their full fibre FibreNation network to Cityfibre for £200m (here). The provider, which is home to 4.3 million broadband customers, added 148k new FTTC/P customers in the quarter (down from 174k in Q2 FY20).

The BT Group’s results for Q3 2019/20 (financial) have revealed that Openreach has expanded their “ultrafast broadband” ISP network to cover 4.88 million UK premises (up from 4.2m last quarter), which includes 2.156m on FTTP (up from 1.81m) and 2.725m on G.fast (up from 2.42m). But the Gov’s Huawei decision will cost £500m!

The London Grid for Learning (LGfL), which until now has worked alongside Virgin Media Business to supply ultrafast broadband connectivity to around 3,000 schools (over 1.2 million children) in the capital city, is taking its efforts UK-wide and renaming to the National Grid for Learning (NGfL).

UK ISP FACTCO (Fibre & Communication Technology Company) has announced that they’ve extended their 10Gbps capable “full fibre” network to cover all of the 180+ businesses (c.600 staff) in the Baltic Creative CIC, which is situated within Liverpool’s (Merseyside) Baltic Triangle area and is supported by the Government’s voucher scheme.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk UK has hired the former BBC journalist and campaign strategist, Lucy Thomas, to be its new Director of Corporate Affairs. Lucy joins from the communications agency, Edelman, where she was Senior Director, leading campaigns and advising major brands like Coca Cola on reputation, PR and political campaigning etc.

Civil engineering firm Kier has today secured a new “multi-million pound” Openreach Network Services Agreement (ONSA), which is their first with the network operator. The deal will see them assisting the telecoms giant in deploying and maintaining both fibre optic and copper broadband services across Hampshire and Berkshire.

UK ISP TalkTalk has today confirmed that their wholesale full fibre (FTTH) broadband network sibling – FibreNation – has been sold to the Goldman Sachs backed Cityfibre for £200m cash. In response Cityfibre has increased their fibre optic roll-out plan from 5 million UK premises by 2025 to 8 million.

Millions of SSE’s retail energy, broadband ISP and home phone customers have today officially become part of Ovo after the company completed its £500m acquisition. Initially nothing is expected to change for SSE’s customers, although over time there may be more differences.

Cable broadband and TV operator Virgin Media UK (Liberty Global) has announced the appointment of Severina Pascu to become its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), which will become effective from 1st February 2020 and help to lead the ISP through an “exciting new growth chapter.”
