The UK Government has today approved fibre optic connectivity provider SSE Enterprise Telecoms (SSEET) as a supplier under the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) RM6095 agreement, which means that they’re now eligible to provide public sector buyers with “Gigabit-capable” connectivity services.

Fibre optic operator Cityfibre, which is currently in the process of investing £2.5bn in order to deploy a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 5 million premises across 60 UK cities and towns by the end of 2025, has today signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC).

Business focused UK ISP MLL Telecom has today been awarded a new contract by the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council (BCP) in Dorset to overhaul and consolidate three existing public sector network infrastructures (Wide Area Networks), totalling 83 sites, into one unified network.

UK ISP Telcom has today announced that they intend to “expedite” their roll-out of a 10Gbps capable “full fibre” and broadband network to cover “hundreds of residential and commercial premises” in Manchester and the wider North West of England, although details of their exact rollout plan remain unclear.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has confirmed that they’ve started to roll-out their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across the northern city of Newcastle (Tyne and Wear), which is expected to cost £50m and is being supported by their UK ISP partner Vodafone.

Purple, which supplies a number of WiFi networks and related management / analytical services, has announced the appointment of BT’s former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Gavin Patterson – as a new non-executive Director. Key universities, such as Birmingham, Warwick and Nottingham, will be among those to benefit from the new contract.

At present if you want to take a home broadband service on Cityfibre’s new Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network then, under an exclusivity agreement, you have to get it from their UK ISP partner Vodafone (Gigafast Broadband). But if a reported contract renegotiation succeeds then more ISPs could join (TalkTalk, Sky Broadband etc.).

Openreach (BT) has announced that their new Dark Fibre X product, which is only focused upon serving the very limited inter-exchange connectivity market, will now get its full launch (national UK availability) a little earlier than expected on 20th December 2019.
