Virgin Media UK Secures Local Full Fibre Contract for Belfast

UK ISP Virgin Media Business has won the Local Full Fibre Networks (LFFN) contract for Belfast in Northern Ireland, which will see more than 200 public sector sites being linked up by a new Gigabit-capable data network. The move should also complement Virgin Media’s 1Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 broadband rollout for homes.

Three UK Start L-Band Rollout and Recycle 3G Spectrum to 4G

Mobile operator Three UK has today pledged that existing customers can expect “performance improvements” (i.e. faster mobile broadband speeds) of up to 150% as part of a major upgrade, which will see them both rollout L-Band (1.4GHz) technology to boost 4G and switch some of their 3G spectrum to 4G.

Fibre optic UK network builder Cityfibre has announced that the CEO of their sibling business connectivity focused ISP Entanet, Elsa Chen, has been appointed to the new role of Chief Customer Officer. Elsa will now be responsible for CF’s end-to-end customer experience strategy across all market verticals.

George Soros Ponders Sale of Stake in UK Full Fibre ISP Hyperoptic

One of the original backers of urban “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband ISP Hyperoptic, George Soros, has reportedly hired banking firm LionTree to oversee a partial or full sale of his stake in the business. The move follows last year’s £500m investment push (here), which will support their rollout to reach 2 million UK premises by 2021.

Connectus Target Gigabit Broadband for Stadia and Other UK Venues

Cityfibre Adds Cubis to its List of UK Full Fibre Network Suppliers

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today signed a new strategic supplier agreement with Cubis (CRH Group), which will see them supply the UK operator with access chambers, covers and cable management systems to aid their FTTP broadband deployments until December 2020.

UK SME Businesses Spend £2,052 a Year on Telecom Services

A new survey of 208 workers, self-employed individuals and small business owners, which was conducted in May 2019 by Consumer Intelligence on behalf of broadband ISP Onecom, has found that the average SME business spent £2,052 a year on telecommunications services (up by around 40% from Ofcom’s c.£1,400 figure in 2016).
