Business ISP Elite has become one of the first to offer a product based off Openreach’s new OSA Filter Connect service, which is kind of a virtual (grey) dark fibre style solution that can offer scalable bandwidth from 10Gbps to 100Gbps synchronous (without having to regrade the fibre due to limitations at the exchange).

Business ISP FluidOne has today launched a new Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution into the UK market called Ethernet on Demand (EoD), which allows customers to ramp up and down their data bandwidth dynamically and will initially be available on Sky’s carrier class network via over 2,800 exchanges.

After a long battle Comcast has today beaten off Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox and emerged as the victor in their bidding war for control of Sky (Sky Broadband). The US cable giant raised their final bid to £30bn for the pan-European TV and broadband company (£17.28 per share), while Fox offered £15.67 per share.

Panasonic (Panasonic Avionics Corporation) has today signed a new deal with UK satellite operator Inmarsat, which will see the company deploying the “high-speed broadband” GX Aviation (Global Xpress) platform to deliver faster in-flight WiFi connectivity to the airlines (passengers) they serve.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, today reports that it has found “reasonable grounds for believing” that business phone and broadband ISP Cloud M may have broken a number of their rules, specifically those that are designed to protect number (phone) portability between providers.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today called on commercial property developers in the UK to help spread gigabit broadband connectivity, which comes after a new survey suggested that 4 out of 5 IT decision makers wouldn’t even consider signing the dotted line on a new lease before checking out a premise’s connectivity.

Cable ISP Virgin Media Business UK has begun offering their “Voom Fibre” 350Mbps unlimited ultrafast business broadband service “free” for the first six months of service, but there’s a catch. You also have to take a selected Apple or Samsung handset alongside one of their pricey mobile plans.

City focused full fibre ISP Hyperoptic has today followed last month’s news of a major £250m funding boost (here), which will help them to reach 2 million UK premises with 1Gbps capable FTTP / FTTB broadband in time for the end of 2022, by appointing Boris Dragovic as their new Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer.

Gigabit broadband and Ethernet speeds look set to connect public sector sites, businesses and social housing in the metropolitan borough of Tameside. The news comes after a new alliance was formed to help extend The Loop, which is known as Greater Manchester’s largest independent fibre optic network.

Richard Tang, the long-time CEO and founder of Rochdale-based broadband and telecoms provider Zen Internet (since 1995), has announced that he is stepping down from his role. Under the plan Richard will effectively swap jobs with Paul Stobart, the company’s current Chairman.

A new report has claimed that some of BT’s “biggest shareholders” will urge any future CEO of the telecoms and broadband ISP giant to put serious consideration toward the old idea of splitting out their UK network access division, Openreach, in the hope of boosting the company’s share price.

The hunt for somebody to replace the outgoing CEO of BT Group, Gavin Patterson, appears to have reached fever pitch, with reports on Sky News that the former boss of telecoms regulator Ofcom, Stephen Carter (Lord Carter of Barnes), has been approach to take over the position. UK ISP MLL Telecom has won the contract to upgrade internet connectivity infrastructure for South Ayrshire Council in Scotland with a new Wide Area Network (WAN). The aim is to completely replace the authority’s legacy wireless network infrastructure with a new a fully managed service.
