Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today issued a brief trading update for the first six months of 2016 to 30th June, which reveals that they signed 3,702 new customer connections in the period and that’s over three times the total amount sold in all of 2015 (1,110).

Vodafone has posted their latest results to 30th June 2016 (Q2 calendar), which shows that they added +28,000 new fixed line broadband customers in the quarter to total 137,000 (up from the +20k added in Q1 and +14k in Q4 2015) and improved their UK outdoor 4G cover to 95% (Ofcom’s definition).

UK ISP TalkTalk has today issued a Q2 2016 (calendar) trading update, which confirms that they lost another 9,000 broadband subscribers in the quarter (est. total 3,987,000) and their joint 940Mbps FTTH network roll-out with Sky and Cityfibre in the City of York (England) has covered 11,000 premises.

Cable operator Virgin Media Business has announced that their on-going £3bn Project Lighting network expansion will aim to connect “tens of thousands” more businesses to their ultrafast 300Mbps broadband platform, starting with 9,500 premises at two business parks in Andover, Hampshire.

It’s musical chairs day at Vodafone Group. The mobile operator has today replaced their UK CEO, Jeroen Hoencamp, with Group Enterprise Chief Executive, Nick Jeffery. Meanwhile Hoencamp has become CEO of both their Netherlands business and of the proposed Vodafone – Liberty Global joint venture in the same country.

Independent ISP Hyperoptic, which is currently rolling out their own 1Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP/B) broadband network to around 500,000 homes in 20 cities across the United Kingdom, has secured a huge £21m loan from the European Investment Bank.

Mobile operator O2 (Telefónica UK) has promoted its current CFO, Mark Evans, to the top job of CEO, where he replaces long-standing boss Ronan Dunne. The change in management follows O2’s failed £10.25bn merger attempt with Three UK (here), which has left the operator to face an uncertain future.

Some 124 eligible small and medium sized businesses in Telford and Wrekin (Shropshire, England) could soon be offered an average level of grant payment worth £15,000 per business (ranging from £7,000 to £25,000), which will help them to get a superfast broadband service installed.

Satellite Solutions Worldwide, which owns Satellite broadband ISP Europasat, has effectively doubled its customer base to around 35,000 users across Europe by acquiring rival UK provider Avonline for a cool £10m. A further undisclosed payment may also be made, depending upon performance.

Openreach (BT) has begun the first trials of its new wholesale Duct and Pole Access (DPA) product, which is intended to help promote the large-scale roll-out of new “ultrafast” broadband services by opening up the operator’s huge network of telegraph poles and cable ducts for use by rivals.
