Mobile operator EE appears to have been influenced by new parent BT and plans to improve customer support by bringing it back to the United Kingdom and hiring 600 new staff. On top of that they’ll increase their 4G landmass network coverage from 60% of the UK to 95% (99.8% population coverage).

In a somewhat unsurprising development Sky’s (Sky Broadband) CEO, Jeremy Darroch, appears to have now officially ruled the operator out from any ambition to build its own national ultrafast fibre optic broadband (FTTP/H) network in the United Kingdom.

Sky has published their latest results to the end of Q1 2016 (calendar), which reveals that the total number of Sky Broadband subscribers in the UK and Ireland increased by just +46,000 in the quarter to total approx. 5.94 million (down sharply from the +144K added in Q4 2015 and +133k in Q3).

Fibre optic infrastructure developer Cityfibre has today reported their final results to the end of 2015, which reveals that their cable duct and fibre network footprint comprised 743km (2014: 543km) serving 1,200 customer premises (up from 885 in 2014) and turnover jumped by 67% to £6.4m.

Some 100 businesses on the Minworth Industrial Estate, which resides between Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham in the West Midlands, will soon be able to access broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps thanks to a new network deployment by Coventry-based ISP WarwickNet.

CityFibre has today signed a new 15-year agreement that will make SSE Enterprise Telecoms their first long-haul network (LDN) customer, with SSE buying Dark Fibre capacity along a stretch of network spanning 48 kilometres between Reading and Slough.

Fibre optic infrastructure developer Cityfibre has today announced a new partnership with two business ISPs, Exa Networks and Diva Telecom. Both providers have promise to add around 350 sites to the operators national UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) / Ethernet / Leased Line network.

Some 70 businesses on Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire can now access superfast broadband of up to 100Mbps, as well as Gigabit capable leased lines, after local ISP WarwickNet took over the management of the campus-wide network during 2013 and gave it a big upgrade.

It’s fair to say that Vodafone’s return to the UK home broadband market has been a quiet one, much like their first failed attempt, and the plans to introduce a TV product alongside have yet to materialise. As such some may see the departure of Cindy Rose (Consumer Director) as a bad sign.

The UK telecoms regulator has today published the final outcome of its Business Connectivity Market Review 2016 (BCMR2016), which has proposed changes that among other things would open up access to BT’s national Dark Fibre network, cut leased line (Ethernet) prices and deliver quicker installs.

Happy Easter. Customers of Sky’s (Sky Broadband) TV packages will be unhappy to learn that the price they pay will be going up by between +£1 and £2 extra per month from 1st June 2016, with the Sky Complete bundle rising by an extra +£4.25.
