A new study of Mobile Network Operator performance in the United Kingdom by P3 communications has named EE and Vodafone as joint winners after both tied the top spot in their examination of data (Mobile Broadband) and voice related network quality; both received 803 points out of a possible 1,000.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has today unveiled a new range of 4G (4GEE) SIM-Only, 4GEE WiFi and 4GEE Tablet price plans, which are apparently “designed to offer customers increased choice and flexibility” in how they access the network. But some of the changes also reflect a small price increase.

Mobile operator EE has revealed that they’ve “switched on” IPv6 Internet addresses for new subscribers during 2016 H2 (a mix of dual-stack with IPv4 and some IPv6-only), at least for those with supporting devices (legacy devices remain on IPv4). Work will now begin to migrate their existing users.

Rochdale ISP Zen Internet has launched a range of new 4G based Mobile tariffs for their business customers, which harness EE’s network. A variety of handset and tablet bundles are on offer, as well as some SIM-Only plans.

A new report from the British Infrastructure Group (BIG), which was setup by Grant Shapps (Conservative MP for Welwyn Hatfield), has brought together 90 cross-party Members of Parliament in order to demand better UK mobile coverage and a limited national roaming agreement.

Consumer magazine PC Pro has published the latest results from their annual PC Pro Awards 2016, which saw Zen Internet win the best broadband ISP gong and Plusnet secure the “Recommended” (runner-up) spot. Sadly it wasn’t such a good day for TalkTalk and EE.

Mobile operator Three UK has today roped in Cityfibre, TalkTalk, Relish Wireless and the Federation of Communication Services (FCS) in order to press Ofcom for a 30% cap on the total amount of mobile spectrum that any one company can own, which is largely targeted at EE (BT) and Vodafone.

Good news, Ofcom’s latest Q2 2016 consumer complaints report finds that the total volume of UK Telecoms (mobile, broadband and phone) and Pay TV complaints has declined. Sadly some ISPs have fared better than others, with BT coming out top of the worst for fixed line home broadband.

The National Audit Office has warned that the Government’s move to replace the existing Airwave wireless communications network, which is used by the police, fire and other emergency services, with a 4G solution supplied by EE is “inherently high risk” and the dangers are not being taken seriously enough.

RootMetrics have today published their latest report into the Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance of network operators EE, Three UK, O2 and Vodafone across 16 of the United Kingdom’s primary cities. Overall Liverpool came top of the table, while Hull is still stuck at the bottom.

The CEO of mobile operator Three UK, David Dyson, has once again called on Ofcom to level the market by limiting BT’s (EE) ability to bid on new radio spectrum in the forthcoming auction of airwaves for the higher frequency 2.3GHz (2350 – 2390MHz) and 3.4GHz (3410 – 3600MHz) bands.

Mobile operator EE has announced that their 4G+ based Mobile Broadband network is being upgraded to support the latest Cat 9 LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology, which can theoretically support Internet speeds of up to 450Mbps by combining multiple spectrum bands.
