New and existing customers of EE’s pay monthly and SIM-only mobile plans can now benefit from 6 months of free access to the BTSport TV app (£5 a month thereafter), which is no doubt a benefit that has been extracted from the recent £12.5bn merger between the two. Just watch your data usage.

UK ISPs EE, BT and TalkTalk have managed to collect the greatest proportion of consumer complaints for their fixed line broadband services, at least that’s one way of reading Ofcom’s Q1 2016 consumer complaints report. Meanwhile Virgin Media and Sky Broadband attracted the fewest gripes.

Several big UK broadband ISPs, including BT, Sky Broadband, EE, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, have lost an appeal against a 2014 ruling by the High Court, which extended court ordered website blocking to include sites that sell counterfeit goods (i.e. abuse of Trade Mark).

Customers of Virgin Media’s mobile tariffs have been told to expect a price rise of 1.6% from 1st July 2016, which they say is in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation announced in April when the figure was at its highest (it’s back to 1.3% now) and there are a few other increases too.

Mobile operator Three UK has a problem with radio spectrum, it needs more. The operator had hoped to tackle this challenge by gobbling O2, but the EU’s competition body blocked that (here). Now they’re demanding more spectrum security from Ofcom and the regulator may have to deliver.

The national telecoms regulator has today produced an updated study of 4G based Mobile Broadband speeds in central London, which specifically looks at the performance impact of the latest Category 4 vs 6 (LTE-Advanced) networks. Once again EE wins the speed crown, but Vodafone are catching up.

Mobile operator EE has today launched two new portable “next-generation” Mobile Broadband devices – the 4GEE WiFi and 4GEE WiFi Mini – that connect WiFi enabled kit (e.g. Smartphones, Tablets, PCs) to their superfast 4G cell network.

BT has today launched a new range of BTMobile tariffs with bundled Smartphones, which are designed to complement their existing 4G SIM-Only tariffs and also include the same £5 discount for existing broadband users, as well as unlimited access to their WiFi hotspots and free BTSport Lite TV.

Telecoms operator BT has announced that their premium BTSport TV channels will be streamed live via YouTube. On top of that any customers who take EE’s 4GEE pay monthly mobile plans will also be given access to the content, with details and pricing due to be revealed this summer.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a press advert for Three UK’s mobile network after rival EE and a member of the public both complained that the operator’s claim to offer “the undisputed. UK’s most reliable network” was misleading.

Mobile giant EE (BT) has formed a new alliance with several other operators, including Verizon (USA), Telstra (Australia) and kt (South Korea), in order to facilitate the development of LTE-Broadcast (LTE-B) technology that enables operators to send a single stream of data to all mobile users in one area.

Mobile operator EE appears to have been influenced by new parent BT and plans to improve customer support by bringing it back to the United Kingdom and hiring 600 new staff. On top of that they’ll increase their 4G landmass network coverage from 60% of the UK to 95% (99.8% population coverage).
