Telecoms operator EE has quietly increased the standard price of their Phone Line Rental service, which is usually bundled alongside their Home Broadband packages, from £16.40 to £17.50 per month.

RootMetrics have today published their latest H2 2015 report into the Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance of EE, Three UK, Vodafone and O2 across nine of the United Kingdom’s primary cities, which reveals that EE is still the fastest overall provider.. but not in all of the cities.

Rivals are today hoping that BT may have dented its position in Ofcom’s on-going Strategic Review after the UK telecoms regulator revealed that the operator had billed £1.7m from part of their EE mobile merger to its “functionally separate” Openreach division, which was called “inappropriate“.

Customers of EE’s TV (IPTV) service, which is usually taken alongside their fixed line broadband and phone bundles, should note that the ISP has just added 25 premium channels (Discovery, British Eurosport, Cartoon Network, HISTORY, Sony Movies etc.) as part of a new deal with TVPlayer.

Telecoms operator EE Mobile has launched a special Christmas promotion for their new Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers, which will give subscribers 500MB (MegaBytes) of free data every month for a year. On top of that they’ve included a £10 Google Play voucher.

EE’s Director of Public Policy on Coverage, Kip Meek, has told ISPreview.co.uk that it is critical for the Government to adopt a more “joined up approach” as otherwise they may struggle to meet their revised coverage obligations. In particular EE wants to see fair rents for mast sites and more infrastructure sharing.

The European Commission has today launched an “in-depth investigation” into the proposed £10.25bn Hutchison Whampoa (Three UK) deal to buy rival mobile operator O2 from debt-laden Telefonica, which has given rise to significant competition concerns.

The Competition and Markets Authority has today “provisionally” cleared the £12.5bn merger between national telecoms giant BT and mobile operator EE because the deal is “not expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition [SLC] in any market in the UK.”

EE reported their latest Q3 2015 results today, which revealed that their fixed line home broadband subscribers increased by just +8,000 in the quarter to total 927,000 (down sharply from +35K in Q2 and +50K in Q1). But 4G mobile performance continued to be strong.

Mobile operator Giffgaff has been named as the best UK mobile network operator for customer service, with only 5% of respondents to a new survey rating them as “poor”. Unfortunately the bottom spots were occupied by Vodafone and EE.

Sharon White, the CEO of Ofcom, told an event at the LSE’s Hong Kong Theatre last night that she wants to drive more “competition” into the market and rejects greater “consolidation“. White also raised concern about rising prices and said that too many people still suffer “poor or no access” to modern mobile and broadband.

The £10.25bn Hutchison Whampoa (Three UK) deal to buy O2 from debt-laden Telefonica looks set to face a big hurdle after the Competition and Markets Authority preliminarily ruled that the “transaction threatens to significantly [affect] competition” in the United Kingdom’s mobile market.

The United Kingdom’s national telecoms regulator has today published its final assessment on their much delayed plans to hike the annual licence fees for the 900MHz and 1800MHz radio spectrum bands, which has seen the costs come down again.. but only a little.

The telecoms regulator has published its latest quarterly report into the volume of complaints experienced by all of the United Kingdom’s largest broadband, phone, mobile and TV providers. As usual the news is good for some providers (e.g. Sky Broadband, Virgin Media) and bad for others (e.g. EE).

Telecoms giant EE has announced that it is to introduce a new “Broadband Service First” pledge, which will form part of a fresh commitment to move away from the bad old days and their sometimes shaky history of customer service. Now to set aside that feeling of déjà vu from the old Orange days.
