Mobile operator EE has announced that it is “accelerating” the roll-out of their new 4G+ (LTE-Advanced Category 6) based Mobile Broadband tech around London, which can in some areas deliver peak download speeds of 146Mbps; although average speeds will be a fair bit lower.

Mobile operator Vodafone has today become the latest provider to follow EE (here) by introducing a seamless WiFi calling service, which doesn’t require customers to find and install a fiddly app in order to use. But you do require a Smartphone that can support the feature.

Customers of telecoms provider EE, specifically those who still use an old Freeserve (fsnet.co.uk) email address that dates back to the days of dialup Internet access, appear to have been left without working email after the operator apparently forgot to renew its own web domain.

BT’s proposed £12.5bn UK merger with mobile giant EE has been given a boost after the national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, advised the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that it didn’t have any major objections to the deal and suggested that existing regulation could tackle most concerns.

Mobile and Internet provider EE will later this morning launch a new promotion that reduces the price of their unlimited Home Broadband and free UK weekend calls package from £9.50 to just £1 per month for the first 12 months of service. Plus they offer up to £100 to help cover the cost of any exit fees if you leave your old ISP early.

Switching to a different Mobile Network Operator (MNO) in the United Kingdom could soon become even easier after the national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, proposed a number of changes that they claim would harmonise and thus simplify the process by taking a cue from home broadband ISP migrations.

Mobile giant EE has reported their latest Q2 2015 results today, which revealed that the operators 4G network coverage had reached the 90% (population) milestone. Elsewhere their fixed line home broadband subscriber growth slowed to total 919,000 (up by +35K in Q2 vs +50K in Q1 and +44K in Q4 2014).

Mobile and Internet provider EE UK, which is in the middle of being gobbled by BT for £12.5bn, has today been fined £1 million after Ofcom found earlier this year that the telecoms operator had broken its rules for governing how you should handle customer complaints (General Condition 14.4).

BT has tweaked some of their Internet and mobile package features and prices by adding 1000 minutes to the BTMobile 2GB tariff, cutting the cost of their superfast Unlimited BTInfinity (FTTC) service to just £12.50 a month and returning Sainsbury’s vouchers worth £75 to £125 to their home broadband deals.

The communications regulator has today published their latest Q1-2015 consumer complaints report, which saw overall complaint volumes continue to fall across most of the major UK mobile, pay tv, fixed line phone and broadband sectors. But the news isn’t so good for EE, which has seen gripes surge.

Broadband and phone providers PlusNet, Virgin Media and the Post Office have come top of a new survey of customer service quality, which questioned some 14,000 respondents about their experiences. Sadly TalkTalk / AOL and EE could all be found at the lowest rated end of the scale.

Mobile operator EE has come top in the latest RootMetrics study of Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance for the United Kingdom’s capital city of London, with the operator reporting the fastest median download speed of 25.4Mbps and the fastest uploads of 19.3Mbps. Vodafone was a distant 2nd.

A new report from Juniper Research has predicted that Mobile Network Operators (MNO) will offload 60% of their Smartphone and Tablet based Mobile Broadband (3G, 4G) data traffic to WiFi networks by 2019 (equivalent to 115,000 Petabytes), which is up almost four-fold from 30,000PB this year.

The Competition and Markets Authority has predictably approved last month’s request by BT for their £12.5bn merger with mobile telecoms giant EE to be “fast-tracked” to a full in-depth phase 2 investigation of the acquisition, which should save a little time.

A new research note from Berenberg Bank has estimated that BT’s on-going £12.5bn effort to buy mobile operator EE could in the long-term be good news for investors, but they also predict that it will result in Virgin Media ending their existing Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) deal with the UK mobile giant.
