The UK Government (DCMS) has today published their response to a number of recommendations made by last year’s National Infrastructure Commission‘s (NIC) report into Infrastructure, Towns and Regeneration (here), which called for better mobile coverage data, a clearer gigabit broadband plan and more effort to boost take-up.

Rural focused UK ISP Gigaclear, which is working to build their 1Gbps full fibre (FTTP) network across remote parts of England, will today launch a “Bank Holiday Special” offer that discounts the price of their unlimited 400Mbps (symmetric speed) broadband service to just £20 for the first 18 months of service (£49 thereafter).

Rural broadband ISP Gigaclear has announced that 3,000 homes and businesses in the market town and civil parish of Brackley in West Northamptonshire (England) will be the next to benefit from their rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network. Locals will soon be able to access speeds of up to 900Mbps.

Digital infrastructure operator CityFibre has restarted their deployments of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across Blackpool and Preston in Lancashire (England), which comes after the company ended their local relationship with civil engineering partner Telent in July.

ISP Giganet, which offers gigabit broadband connectivity to homes and businesses via several platforms (Openreach, CityFibre and its own FTTP network), has signed a new agreement with Dark Fibre operator Neos Networks to secure backhaul and data centre connectivity for their full fibre rollout in the South of England.

The Hellesdon Parish Council, which is a village and suburb of Norwich in Norfolk (England), has fined CityFibre an unspecified amount after a local councillor complained that their efforts to rollout a new gigabit-broadband (FTTP) ISP network in the area was “shoddy” and had caused “a lot of issues“.

The Government’s Building Digital UK team has published a Prior Information Notice (PIN) for their Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy (GIS) programme, which is valued at £800m+ and reflects the part of their £5bn Project Gigabit scheme that aims to help gap-fund the rollout of gigabit-capable broadband ISP networks into rural areas.

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) appears to be in the process of laying the groundwork for both faster upload speeds and latency times (ping), which comes after a growing number of the provider’s customers began reporting activation of the first DOCSIS 3.1 channels for upstream on their HUBs.
