Hull-based ISP KCOM, which has so far covered 300,000 premises across North / East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire (England) with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, has today appointed Johan Dennelind as Chairman of its Board of Directors and Fiona Goldsmith as a Non-Executive Director.

The inaugural UK Fibre Awards event was held last night, which saw various broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across ten categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of the winners included Giganet, which was named ‘Overall Fibre Provider of the Year‘, while G.Network scooped ‘Best Urban Fibre Provider‘.

CityFibre has today broken the first ground on their £30m investment to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the large town and borough of St Helens in Merseyside (England), which aims to cover most of the local homes and businesses by 2025.

A new study of 1,500 UK based adults, which was commissioned by London-focused ISP CommunityFibre and conducted by Perspectus Global in March 2022, has claimed that 20% of Brits cannot afford to pay their broadband bill and 33% would rather cut back on their fuel use than cut back on internet access to save money.

Customers of UK ISP Giganet in Hampshire, particularly those connecting through their Point of Presence (PoP) in the Winchester Exchange, are among those suffering from a major outage after “significant damage” was caused to one of Openreach’s main fibre spine cables by a “large excavation team” in Basingstoke.

Network builder Netomnia, which is being supported by UK broadband ISP partner YouFibre, has today confirmed that their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network is being extended to cover homes and businesses in the three towns and villages of Oldham, Dalton in Furness and Doddington.

London-focused gigabit-broadband builder and UK ISP G.Network, which unexpectedly saw its founder and former CEO – Sasho Veselinski – exit last month due to “personal reasons” (here), has managed to grab the former Managing Director of Openreach’s Fibre and Network Delivery team, Kevin Murphy, to be its new CEO.

Broadband ISP Ogi has just issued a brief progress update to celebrate the first year of their £200m effort to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across South Wales (here and here), which initially aims to cover 150,000 premises by the end of 2025 (they’ve almost completed 23,000).
