UK ISP RunFibre, which is busy building their own gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across rural South Gloucestershire in England, has announced that they’ve also made their services available over CityFibre’s full fibre network in Wolverhampton and Gloucester.

Rural focused UK ISP Gigaclear has announced that their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network will be extended to cover the small town of Shipston-on-Stour (population of 5,000) in Warwickshire, which comes just two days after rival network operator FullFibre Limited made a similar announcement (here).

UK ISP LightSpeed Broadband, which is deploying a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the East of England, has today celebrated their first anniversary by announcing that they’ve managed to cover 30,000 premises and have expanded their build to include a total of 32 towns across the region.

Two new Alternative Network (altnet) builders – Brightstar Limited and Urbanfibre Limited – have today revealed some tentative details about their proposed plans to build or expand an existing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across some parts of the country.

Openreach’s (BT) Director of Corporate Affairs, Catherine Colloms, has told a UK committee for the new Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill (PSTI) that the proposed law doesn’t do enough to help them bring gigabit broadband ISP network upgrades to large residential buildings (MDUs) and telegraph poles.

The Welsh Government (WG) has confirmed that its top-up funding for the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS), which offers grants to help rural homes install gigabit-capable internet connections, will end on 31st March 2022 because “budget pressures” mean they can no longer afford to continue to “underwrite the UK Government“.

Infracapital-backed UK ISP Gigaclear has begun street works in the rural Dorset (England) market town of Blandford Forum, which is also expected to cover parts of Blandford St. Mary. Over 6,000 local homes and business premises are due to gain access to their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network.

Network builder FullFibre Limited has today added another two towns across Worcestershire and Warwickshire in England to benefit from their rollout of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which aims to cover “at least” 500,000 UK premises by 2025.

CityFibre’s £40m investment to deploy a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the Wiltshire town of Swindon, which began in late 2020 (here), has in recent weeks generated a few complaints after contractors blocked some residents inside their homes – often without prior notice.

But they’ve got some bugs to fix.

The UK Government (Building Digital UK) has this evening announced the completion of the “largest public sector broadband project” in Wales, which has enabled 620 public sector sites (hospitals, police stations, libraries etc.) to get access to a lightning-fast full fibre network connection.

The Highlands and Islands Enterprise in Scotland has announced the completion of a joint £7.7m state aid funded project to build a new gigabit-capable “full fibre” broadband and Ethernet network to connect 154 public sector sites (schools, NHS, council etc.) across Inverness, Fort William, Thurso and Wick. But it’s also fostering FTTP.

Broadband ISP Connexin, which recently began work on their £80m project to build a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to unseat KCOM’s “broadband monopoly” in Hull and East Yorkshire (here and here), has today launched a new 2000Mbps (2Gbps) trial package for local homes.

The Welsh Government has provided a Q4 2021 progress update on their £52.5 million Phase 2 Superfast Cymru contract with BT (Openreach), which confirms that 25,855 premises (up from 24,515 in Q3) have now gained access to the operator’s gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network.

Hull-based UK ISP Pure Broadband, which currently delivers internet connectivity services to homes and businesses covered by the full fibre networks from KCOM, CityFibre and OFNL, has today added a fourth network provider in the shape of MS3. The latter is busy building across the North of England.

Network builder CityFibre has today announced the deployment of their 100th Fibre Exchange (FEX), which in theory should enable enough capacity to serve the first 4.8 million premises under their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband rollout across the UK (so far they’ve completed the build to 1 million premises).
