KC (Karoo), the incumbent internet and phone provider for Hull and East Riding in Yorkshire (UK), has today launched a new KC Connect service that offers to send out an engineer to help owners of the latest Smart TV’s connect them to the internet. KC has also promised to double the usage allowance of any broadband customers who take the service.

Internet and phone provider TalkTalk (AOL UK) has today released its latest results to 31st March 2012 (Q4), which saw their broadband subscriber base decline by -13,000 in the quarter to reach a new total of 4,066,000. That’s a significant improvement on the -43,000 lost during the previous Q4-2011. The ISP also revealed growth in its new superfast broadband service.

Broadband provider TalkTalk UK appears to have revealed the first picture of its next generation ‘Plus‘ package router (Huawei HG533), which is specifically said to include support for their forthcoming YouView (IPTV) based TalkTalkTV service (due to launch sometime during “summer 2012“).

Global financial services firm Morgan Stanley has warned that UK ISP TalkTalk faces a near-term Margin Risk from the costs incurred as a result of funding development and launch of their forthcoming TV service, TalkTalkTV, which will be based off the subscription free YouView (IPTV) platform.

Red Bee Media, a media management company, has revealed new research which suggests that the UK television industry expects revenue from the a new generation of online video services, fuelled by faster broadband ISP connectivity, to quadruple by 2020. But incumbent broadcasters aren’t going to be the main winners as competition from new services (e.g. Netflix , YouView etc.) will begin to eat away at the established market.

Media giant Sky (Sky Broadband) has today announced that its new internet TV (video streaming) service, which is due to launch this summer 2012 and deliver access to Sky content via a “wide range of broadband-connected devices“, will be called NOW TV.

The BBC’s Director General, Mark Thompson, has somewhat controversially announced that the TV broadcasters free web-based iPlayer broadband video streaming service will soon begin to offer a commercial “download-to-own” product similar to Blinkbox and other online digital distribution platforms. But apparently it won’t be a “second licence-fee by stealth” as many might fear.
