Alternative network provider and UK ISP Zzoomm is in the news for a second time today, albeit this time to celebrate the fact that their new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Shiplake (Oxfordshire), which only went live on 20th December 2023, has already exceeded a take-up rate of 20%.

The UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme has today announced two new contracts, which sees ISP Gigaclear awarded £26.5m to cover around 10,000 rural premises in North and South Oxfordshire. At the same time, Connect Fibre has scooped a £16.5m deal to cover 6,000 premises in North East Staffordshire.

Broadband ISP Zzoomm has reported that take-up of their multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in one of their first locations to go live during early 2020, the Oxfordshire (England) town of Henley-on-Thames, has now hit 1 in 3 premises (roughly 33%) and growing.

Some 400 homes across the rural Oxfordshire (England) village of Ardington have been left disconnected from their broadband and phone services for almost two weeks, which occurred after criminals stole more than 500 metres of underground copper cable from Openreach’s local network.

Macquarie Capital backed UK ISP Voneus, which holds a “near term” plan to cover 100,000 homes in rural areas with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network (here), has signed a new partnership with Glenevin Construction to reach 17,000 homes across Oxfordshire and Warwickshire in England.

Smaller UK alternative network ISPs are increasingly starting to butt heads in some of the same areas. The latest example comes from the small market town of Thame in Oxfordshire (England), where Swish Fibre and Gigaclear have both started to go live with a new full fibre broadband network, within days of each other.

Some 16,000 extra premises across rural parts of West Oxfordshire in England can now access a gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network after Gigaclear completed its local project, worth £21m, in the district. The area has now also achieved almost universal (99%+) coverage of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps).

UK ISP Zzoomm has today confirmed that their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network will next be expanded into the Berkshire (England) towns of Sandhurst and Crowthorne. The rollout is expected to cover 10,500 homes and businesses in the two locations.
