Communications provider Entanet has warned that Sky Broadband’s recent decision to stop selling broadband to customers with a Minimum Access Line Speed (MALS) of 2Mbps or less (here) is “bad news for consumers” and could end up “stretching the digital divide instead of closing it.”

Sky has today published their latest results to 31st December 2016, which reveals that in the last six months they’ve added +140,000 new Sky Broadband subscribers in the UK and Ireland to total 6.1 million (up from +70K added in H1 2016). Plus you’ll soon be able to get Sky Q TV via broadband.

Last week news broke that Sky Broadband intended to raise the monthly price of Phone Line Rental from 1st March 2017 (it’s currently £17.40), although the ISP refused to say by how much. Today we’ve had it confirmed that the price will rise by 9.14% to £18.99 per month.

Customers of Sky Broadband have been given an unusual early warning of a future price increase to the cost of Sky Line Rental (phone), which is due to hit on 1st March 2017. However Sky’s warning stems from a newspaper promotion for their service, rather than a direct communication.

ISPreview.co.uk can today confirm that the first Internet piracy warning letters (aka – “subscriber alerts” or “educational emails“) will this month begin to be sent by all of the biggest broadband ISPs. The “alerts” will be issued to those users who are suspected of engaging in online copyright infringement.

Second time lucky. Customers of Sky (Sky Broadband) may have mixed feelings when they read today’s news, which confirms that Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox has agreed to gobble Sky by paying £11.7bn to acquire a 61% stake in the company (Fox already owns 39%).

A staggering 1 billion accounts belonging to Internet giant Yahoo! have been breached by a second major hack, albeit one that occurred in August 2013. Today BT Retail and other broadband ISPs that have used the firm for their email (e.g. Sky Broadband) are warning customers to change their passwords.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today officially soft launched their new 4G based Sky Mobile service in the United Kingdom, which is powered by a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with O2 (Telefonica UK). The move will turn Sky into a true quad-play provider.
