The UK telecoms regulatory has today published a new study of consumer satisfaction with fixed line broadband, phone, pay TV and mobile providers, which surveyed thousands of consumers between July and September 2015 to reveal that Sky Broadband is the highest rated of all the big ISPs.

Last year’s move by Sky Broadband to swap their existing Sky Talk (voice calls) customers, including those who received free calls at no extra cost, on to a new paid package (presumed consent) did not go down well with everybody (here). But a little pressure from Ofcom appears to have helped.

Construction of Cityfibre’s joint roll-out of a new ultrafast 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network with Sky Broadband and TalkTalk in the UK city of York (England) has officially resumed today after work was paused due to the Christmas break. Happily the recent flood had no impact.

In a controversial move Sky Broadband has today announced that all new UK subscribers will soon have network-level filtering enabled by default when they sign-up (i.e. Parental Controls that block access to “adult” websites).

Sky Broadband informs that they will today launch a Christmas and New Year offer on their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband package, which will make the service free for the first 12 months (£10 a month thereafter) and they’re also throwing in a £50 M&S e-voucher. Elsewhere Sky Fibre (up to 38Mbps) is also being cut to just £5 per month.

The telecoms regulator has today published their latest Q3 2015 complaints report, which reveals the volume of gripes received for all of the United Kingdom’s largest broadband, phone, mobile and TV providers. As usual EE takes a beating, while Sky Broadband and Virgin Media win praise.

A new report from security consultant Paul Moore has revealed that many of the United Kingdom’s major broadband ISPs, including BT, PlusNet, EE, Virgin Media, Sky Broadband and TalkTalk, have significant vulnerabilities in their systems that could be exploited by hackers. But some, such as EE and TalkTalk, did far worse than others.

Sky will today join the “Black Friday” fun (even though it’s Monday) by offering their ‘up to’ 17Mbps Sky Broadband Unlimited package free for the first 12 months (£10 a month thereafter). Subscribers can also pick either a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, £100 M&S or Tesco voucher or £100 Prepaid MasterCard.

Utility infrastructure provider GTC, which last year made their 300Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network the standard broadband technology across all of their future new build homes (here), has confirmed that they’re now rolling out to the new Story Homes development in West Cumbria (England).

The 2010 decision that helped to grow BT’s broadband based TV business, which involved Ofcom imposing regulation that required Sky to offer wholesale access (“Wholesale Must Offer“) to their Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 channels (at prices set by the regulator), has today been removed.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today soft launched a new range of devices and a more dynamic approach to distributing TV content, both online and via Satellite, through the launch of their next-generation entertainment and Internet system called Sky Q (available in the UK from early 2016).

Several members of the public and Sky (Sky Broadband) have succeeded in getting the Advertising Standards Authority to ban a press, website, poster and TV ad for BT’s various TV and broadband bundles, all of which claimed that BTSport was “free” even though there were caveats and contradictions galore.

Customers of Sky Broadband will soon become the latest to be targeted by Golden Eye International (part of the ‘Ben Dover’ porn brand), which intends to send letters to the ISPs subscribers that will demand compensation for the alleged sharing of copyright material on P2P file sharing networks.
